Manufacturer Taps Canon to Advance Managed Print Services Program

Challenge

A leading manufacturer needed help unlocking the full power of its print and copy fleet. Canon Business Process Services implemented a managed print services (MPS) program with multiple benefits. Our client, a leading manufacturer, wanted to incorporate versatile print and copy tech solutions at its offices and plants across the US. At the time, it operated over 900 standalone copiers, fax machines, scanners, desktop printers, and MFDs (multifunction devices with print/copy/scan/fax capabilities).

The MFDs were state-of-the art, high-powered devices—but they weren’t connected to a network, so employees couldn’t access the MFDs’ print, scan, and fax features. Essentially, the MFDs operated as standalone copiers. “It was a common practice for employees to print something at their desk, then walk to a copier and make 20 copies,” said a manager at the manufacturing company. “We had the functionality to be much more efficient, but we hadn’t unlocked it.”

Our Solution

The managed print services program we designed has a number of core benefits:

  • Lowers costs by replacing hundreds of redundant standalone devices with networked MFDs
  • Increases efficiency by enabling employees to leverage the MFDs’ full range of print, copy, scan, and fax capabilities
  • Reduces paper usage by offering the ability to scan documents and print on both sides
  • Benefits the environment by replacing print-and-copy with digital workflows
  • Streamlines the company’s document management processes
  • Frees up space

Results

By eliminating redundant equipment, cutting down on printing supplies and usage, and making other efforts towards efficiency, the managed print services program saved the company over $750,000 to date. Our team also launched a print-and-copy help desk in addition to implementing fleet monitoring tools to proactively manage services. For instance, we can take real-time meter reads remotely, allowing us to refill paper, ink and toner before they run out.

These efforts lessen the burden on the company’s IT department and free its employees to help the company in other ways. By incorporating new multitasking technology, we helped the manufacturer implement a multi-beneficial printing system—ensuring productivity, efficiency, eco-friendliness, and savings.

"Canon’s approach not only significantly increased our operational efficiency and cut costs, it also helped meet our environmental goals. That’s a powerful result and Canon helped make it happen." - Manager at Manufacturing Company
