To help meet this goal, Canon Business Process Services (CBPS) offers Records Needs Assessment (RNA), our consulting service designed to analyze an existing records program and provide recommendations for closing gaps between the current state and the desired future state.

Our proprietary methodology is based on an extensive portfolio of industry best practices and an Information Governance Maturity Model developed by ARMA International. With minimal intrusion, CBPS documents the effectiveness of a current deployment and makes an assessment of the gaps. We synthesize objective information about an organization’s records management program and information governance using the essential guiding principles. The result is a broad scope, high-level strategic document that will be used to guide future investments. Risk-incurring gaps can be addressed using the actionable recommendations, and focus can be placed on the areas the maturity model has identified as needing improvement.

A further benefit of RNA is that it can be incorporated into an internal audit program. The methodology and analysis are designed to be reapplied at a future point of the document progress and to keep program improvements focused on the areas of greatest need. The latter includes environments marked by rapid change — internally from growth and expansion and externally from evolving compliance requirements.
